This course focused on communicating new product concepts and redesigns through rapid prototyping.

First-Aid Kit Redesign - Project Overview
For this project, our group was tasked with redesigning a first-aid kit for a self-chosen target group and market. As university students who were constantly working with various tools, we decided to design a first-aid kit aimed at universities and students like ourselves. After some initial research, we concluded that our first-aid kit would need to contain a large range of first-aid supplies, have simple and easy to understand first-aid reference instructions, be easily accessible and stored, and provide easy access and visibility to all the first-aid items.
As such, our first-aid kit concept was a large wall-mounted first-aid kit with a detachable portion that contained all of the supplies needed to treat the most common injuries. The detachable portion came with color-coded instructions and fold-out sections so that it could be laid flat on a surface to provide easy access and visibility to the needed first-aid supplies. The other half remained on the wall and contained the more specialized first-aid items.

Birdhouse Redesign - Project Overview
The birdhouse redesign project was a fairly open-ended project where I needed to redesign some aspect of a birdhouse for a target group of people. After my initial research, I settled on redesigning a birdhouse kit for the elderly. I found this interesting because during my research, I stumbled upon several articles discussing various programs and activities, such as painting, craft making, and birdwatching, intended to help the elderly pass the time and keep them engaged. I thought that making birdhouses would fit perfectly into these activities, but most birdhouse making kits required the use of some hand tools and were more geared toward kids.
So for my birdhouse kit, I designed the parts to fit together like puzzle pieces. Only glue would be needed to hold the birdhouse together making it quick and easy to assemble. This gives the elderly the time to paint and decorate the birdhouse either for themselves or for friends and family. I made the prototype out of foam board, but the intended material would be wood.
